OUR CREATION

The facility management industry continues to change as it adapts to increasing globalization, significant retirement gaps and advancing technology. Today’s FM professionals need a broad range of skills, expanding beyond traditional FM tasks, to optimize building performance, develop business strategies and satisfy building occupants. And while demand for facility professionals is growing around the world, a lack of universally accepted standards and training make it difficult for employers to identify and hire proven talent.

The ProFM credential was created to help with just that. Global:

ProFM’s Body of Knowledge reflects the globalization of the FM industry from the incorporation of global FM ISO 41000 standards, the perspective of international ProFMI Commission members, and input from facility professionals in 93 countries.

 

The ProFM Body of Knowledge defines the 19 functional FM knowledge areas and five cross-functional competencies required of today’s facility professionals.

This body of knowledge is the result of an extensive research study led by the Professional Facility Management Institute™ (ProFMI™) and the ProFMI Commission, with input from more than 3,300 professionals spanning 93 countries.

Final Assessment

  • The two-part ProFM credential final assessment, made up of a Knowledge Exam and Application Exam is available on-demand and may be repeated at no additional charge.
  • The Knowledge Exam made up of 75 knowledge-based, multiple choice questions lasting 90 minutes and the Application Exam contains 50 situation-based, multiple choice questions lasting 90 minutes.
  • Earn the ProFM credential by completing both Exams with a score of 70% or higher.

The ProFM Credential Program helps facility professionals stay up-to-date on the latest developments throughout the industry, and to maintain this currency, ProFM credential holders are required to renew every three years.

MAINTENANCE AND RENEWAL OF ProFM CREDENTIAL 

How is a ProFM Credential Maintained?

To ensure that FM professionals possess the most current and relevant knowledge and skills, credential holders are required to maintain their ProFM credential by earning 45 renewal credits every three years.

 

Renewal credits can be earned in a variety of convenient and cost-effective ways including, but not limited to: attending seminars, reading industry articles or books, mentoring upcoming FMs, working in the FM profession and speaking engagements, among other activities. ProFM Renewal Requirements

The ProFM Credential Program helps facility professionals stay up-to-date on the latest developments throughout the industry, and to maintain this currency, ProFM credential holders are required to renew every three years. Renewal may be completed by earning a minimum of 45 contact hours of continuing education or “renewal credits” that benefit the development of your personal FM career, your organization’s goals and the industry as a whole. Contact hours can be earned in any of the following categories:

  • Continuing Education (attending in-person or virtual courses, educational sessions at conferences, seminars, workshops, digital media consumption, etc.)
  • Working in the FM Profession (advancing knowledge and skills as an FM practitioner or consultant)
  • Reading (consuming books, articles, whitepapers, blogs, etc.)
  • Sharing knowledge (mentoring, coaching, subject matter expert consultation, teaching, etc.)
  • Professional accomplishments (presenting, speaking engagements, board/committee member, publication of book/article/whitepaper, earning related credential, etc.)
